Reliability and Security are Essential to Connectivity

Reliability and Security are Essential to Connectivity

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of sensors, software, and digital devices that share data over the internet or private networks. Two of the main challenges for IoT networks are reliability and security. These networks are powered by systems, such as 5G and fiber lines that require physical infrastructure to function. IoT devices connected to the network are often low-powered, lacking the ability to maintain a high level of security.

Since networks powered by 5G or fiber lines require physical infrastructure, what happens to communication systems when physical infrastructure fails? In the event of a natural disaster, where physical infrastructure fails, the critical IoT network turns offline. Severed connections to IoT devices are catastrophic for smart cities, healthcare services, manufacturing, and other technology-dependent industries. Satellite systems can effectively provide failover connectivity when systems on the ground are down. But without proper cybersecurity protection measures, such satellites cannot support secure connectivity. Cybersecurity attackers can intercept communication channels between IoT-to-Cloud devices or attack specific data points gaining unauthorized access to private information.

XQ Zero-Trust Technology

Satellite communication systems, paired with XQ’s Zero-Trust technology, form a unified solution by pairing terrestrial and space networks seamlessly and securely. XQ’s Zero-Trust Architecture, integrated into a satellite system, uses encrypted channels over space networks allowing devices to remain online securely even if communications on the ground are interrupted. Our proprietary technology also ensures protection against cyber attacks by encrypting packets of information at the edge, separating them from their encryption key counterparts during transmission, and finally decrypting such packets securely at their edge destination. Because data is encrypted at the edge, data transmitted from IoT devices are secure even when transferring from fiber to 5G or satellite communications in a disaster scenario. XQ’s Zero-Trust architecture protects the data transmitted from IoT devices regardless of the systems used for the transmissions. Security through 5G, fiber lines, satellites, or any power systems that deploy XQ’s data-centric technology is guaranteed.
