Junaid Islam on Zero-Trust Architecture

In this OODAcast Junaid Islam discusses Zero-Trust and secure communications. Junaid explains how the Zero-Trust architecture translates to corporate America.

“Zero-Trust Architecture is relevant to companies because there’s nothing the company owns anymore.” said  Junaid Islam.

Zero-Trust isn’t a new concept. Zero-Trust came from the U.S. national security industry to originally counter-attacks at phone companies like tapping into phone lines or faxes. Zero-Trust has become more relevant as companies work with a variety of partners, consultants, and vendors. Junaid discusses the need for companies to adopt Zero-Trust Architecture and the steps to take to decrease the risk of your company’s data being compromised.

  1. Evaluate your operating model.

Companies have changed and outsourced certain aspects over the years so it’s important to understand current processes and outside entities that could pose cyber risks to your architecture. Determine what cybersecurity services you already have that you can currently use and what gaps are left.

  2. Partition external partners.

Bring in the Zero-Trust architecture by partitioning external partners by role and risk. Evaluate each partner and determine the data they’re handling and its level of sensitivity and the impact if it's compromised.

  3. Bring in new services to close the gap.

There are great products and services, like XQ, that will reduce your risk and close the gap. This ultimately reduces your security spending and complexity.

  4. Junaid identifies leaders in Zero-Trust networking like Palo Alto and Zscalar as well as new Zero-Trust Data Protection solutions like XQ.
