AI-Powered Data Classification
Labels that understand context.
You can’t protect what you haven’t found. XQ uses semantic AI, not just pattern matching, to find and label sensitive data — CUI, PHI, PII, ITAR-controlled and your own categories — across structured and unstructured data. Those labels then drive the encryption and access policy that follow the data everywhere.

Find what’s exposed
Discover sensitive data across files, email and storage you didn’t know about.
Labels that mean something
Context-aware classification catches what keyword rules miss and flags fewer false positives.
Protection that follows the label
Each label sets the encryption and access policy applied to that data.
Why pattern matching isn’t enough
Regex and keyword rules find Social Security numbers, but they miss a contract that describes export-controlled technology, or a medical note with no obvious identifiers. XQ’s semantic AI reads for meaning and context, so it recognizes regulated content the way a reviewer would.
How classification drives protection
- Authenticate. The user signs in through your identity provider.
- Check policy. Classification and organizational policy decide whether and how the data must be protected.
- Label. Structured labels record the data’s sensitivity, handling requirements and access policy.
- Encrypt. A key is generated on the endpoint and the data is encrypted before it leaves.
Because the label is bound to the encrypted object, every later access is checked against it — see dynamic policy enforcement.

Works with Microsoft Purview labels
XQ syncs labels with Microsoft Purview, so the classifications you already use carry over, and XQ extends their enforcement beyond the Microsoft perimeter. See XQ + Microsoft Purview.
Start with a free scan
The XQ Governance Scanner runs the same classification on a file or folder you drop in — no account setup, no sales call — and shows exactly what sensitive data it contains.

FAQ
AI data classification, answered directly.
What kinds of sensitive data does XQ classify?
Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), protected health information (PHI), personally identifiable information (PII), ITAR-controlled technical data and custom categories you define, in both structured and unstructured data.
How is AI classification different from DLP keyword rules?
Keyword and regex rules match patterns. XQ’s semantic AI understands context, so it recognizes regulated content that doesn’t contain an obvious pattern and avoids flagging harmless matches.
Does XQ work with our Microsoft Purview labels?
Yes. XQ syncs labels with Microsoft Purview and enforces them on the data itself, including outside Microsoft 365.
Do labels stay with the data after it leaves our environment?
Yes. Labels are cryptographically bound to the encrypted object, so they stay intact wherever the data travels and every later access is checked against them. Conventional labels are often stripped once data leaves the perimeter.
Can we try classification before buying?
Yes. The free XQ Governance Scanner classifies a file or folder you drop in and reports the sensitive data it finds, with no account setup.
